SPECTER (SPECTRE)
Specter and shade are both terms that were
seldom used after the twentieth century except in the
British Isles where it is spelled spectre. In
the United States the modern equivalents are ghosts or
spirits.A specter is a representation of something
supernatural or frightening, usually imaginary and usually
haunting. In some role-playing or fantasy worlds, a specter
is a particularly powerful type of undead. Compare with
"phantom". The term usually refers to a ghost, or sometimes
to another kind of spiritual being or sprite.

My spectre around
me night and day
Like a wild beast guards my way.
My emanation far within
Weeps incessantly for my sin.
A fathomless and boundless deep,
There we wander, there we weep;
On the hungry craving wind
My spectre follows thee behind.
