THIRD EYE - EYE OF SIVA
The eye of Siva is the pineal gland which originally was an
external and active eye in the head of primitive mankind. It
comes from Sanskrit word, Ushnisha (usnisa) which means to
be warm, flaming, or a mystical warmth through inner light,
intuition and vision.
The eye gradually retreated within the skull; and bone,
skin and hair grew to cover its place to a point where it
was gradually forgotten about. As the third eye retreated
into the skull, its place was overtaken by the two present
organs of vision, the physical eyes.

Many Eastern religions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism, use
Buddha's, avatars, and other representations of relatively
high status who alone use the organ of spiritual vision. For
in them the pineal gland has become active and is to some
extent physiologically enlarged.
The "normal" person walking around
today has a pineal gland which is more or less nonfunctional, yet
many today recognize that the third eye is the basis for all
intuition and scientists theorize that in the near future, humans
will speak with their minds instead of their voices. This could also
be called the "opening" of the third eye.
Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart...
Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens...
