CHRISTIAN BELIEFS
Christian history begins with Jesus of Nazareth, a
Jew who was born in a small corner of the Roman Empire, a
province called Palestine.
The English word "Jesus" comes from the Greek form of the
Hebrew Joshua, which means "savior." "Christ" is a title,
which comes from the Greek form of the Hebrew Messiah,
meaning "anointed one." Since the time of the earliest
Christians, "Christ" has been used both as a surname and as
a name that stands alone.
