- Luca Bartolomeo de Pacioli (c.1447-1967) was an Italian mathematician, Franciscan friar, collaborator with Leonardo da Vinci, and an early contributor to the field now known as accounting.
- He was also called Luca di Borgo after his birthplace, Borgo Sansepolcro.
- In 1494 he published Summa de Arithmetica and documented the double-entry bookkeeping system that we still use today.
- He didn't invent it, he organized it so the whole world could learn it.
- In 1550, the famous Renaissance biographer Giorgio Vasari publicly accused Pacioli of plagiarism and he claimed that Pacioli had stolen the innovative mathematical, geometric, and artistic perspective work of his late master, Piero della Francesca and never gave him credit.
- Pacioli also worked on a book called De Divina Proportione with Leonardo, but he made an error which involved the geometry of a complex polyhedron known as the elevated (or stellated) icosidodecahedron.
- Leonardo only worked on the artwork, he didn't contribute to the writing.
- Pacioli confidently formulated a theorem stating that 6 summits (vertices) of the pyramids built on the icosidodecahedron lay perfectly within the same single geometric plane.
- He offered no mathematical proof for this, stating it as a fact and Leonardo proved him wrong which angered Pacioli so the 2 had a huge falling out.
- Not long after, Pacioli published a 2nd copy of the book and replaced Leonardo's artwork because he had marked the error with dots along the top of the icosidodecahedron.
- That is why the crystal icosidodecahedron is shown on the left in this painting and another thing, Leonardo was mostly wrongly blamed for the error throughout history, instead of the rightful owner of it, Pacioli.
- Pacioli also worked on the game called the Problem of the Division of Stakes and made an error there.
- We don't want you to believe the lie that Pacioli was a great mathematician because he was very amateur and he didn't teach Leonardo anything about the subject or tutor him, nor was he a 'friend' as many claim, in fact, his accounting studies were about arithmetic, not math.

- Machiavelli was not simply a political writer but a skilled literary stylist who deliberately courted controversy.
- Florence was at war with Pisa and wanted to force the city into submission by cutting off its water supply and sea access, while simultaneously making Florence a navigable seaport and he as a key Florentine official and strategist, managing the political advocacy, labor coordination, and deployment of thousands of workers.
- Leonardo provided the technical expertise, topographic mapping, and conceptual design involving canals, weirs, and a mountain tunnel.
- However, it was a prank and when Cesare Borgia questioned Leonardo about it he told him it was impossible because the technology required didn't exist but Borgia stubbornly moved ahead and it was a failure.
