ANOINTING OIL
The use of oils was predominant in Israel in both the Old
Testament and New Testament. Oil had cleansing properties and was special
because during times of famine it was considered a sign of
blessings and stability. Olive oil was often used as a skin
moisturizer.
Oil was used in early religious ceremonies and any person or
object that was anointed, was considered blessed by the
Lord.
There were at least 12 essential oils used for various
purposes throughout the Bible; Frankincense, Myrrh, Cedarwood, Cypress, Cassia, Spikenard, Hyssop, Myrtle,
Cistus (Rose of Sharon), Onycha and Galbanum.
The Holy Anointing Oil
used by Jesus Christ and his disciples contained an herb
named Kaneh-Bosem, which has since been identified as
a cannabis extract. The incense that Jesus used in
ceremonies also contained a cannabis extract. The temple
priests would place the incense on stones and then set them
on fire and the worshippers would sit in a smoke-filled
room.
Jesus Christ recognized the medicinal benefits of cannabis and
is said to have used it to perform healing miracles (such as
curing eye and skin diseases referred to in the Gospels).
The herb was not generally smoked or eaten, but mixed with
carrier oils and absorbed through the skin, however, the
cannabis in incense was inhaled.
Additionally, both the Mayans and the Druids, who considered
earth as a living paradise, used mushrooms and marijuana to
expand their consciousness.
